Ways to Give

Donate Now

At Equal Justice Works, we believe that a community of lawyers committed to public service can fulfill our nation’s promise of equal justice for all and rely on your support to make this vision a reality.

Since our founding in 1986, we have mobilized more than 2,500 Fellows nationwide, 85% of whom continue to serve in the public interest following their Fellowships.

Your tax-deductible donation today will help build and sustain a diverse pipeline of people who dedicate their careers to working for the public good. For information about other ways to give, including planned gifts and contributions of stock, see below.

Cy Pres

Courts use the doctrine of cy pres to award unclaimed or impractical-to-distribute funds from class action settlements to appropriate charitable organizations, as the “next best” way to advance the core interests of the underlying class members. Equal Justice Works welcomes cy pres designations of unclaimed settlement funds from class action lawsuits, which are used to support our work to increase access to justice across the nation. If you have any questions, including whether Equal Justice Works might be an appropriate cy pres beneficiary in a particular case, please feel free to contact [email protected].

Contribute Stock

An outright gift of appreciated securities, or stock, is a quick and easy way to make a meaningful gift and to receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift. To facilitate this type of donation, please contact [email protected] to receive the necessary information.

Recommend a Donor Advised Fund Grant

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable investment account that you create your investment account. Common examples include Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, and BNY Mellon. These funds accept cash and securities as well as other assets, and they enable donors to take immediate tax deductions. If you have any further questions, please contact us at [email protected]

Employer Matching Donations

Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions completed by their employees. The impact of your gift to Equal Justice Works may be matched, doubled, or possibly tripled—please reach out to your employer to confirm its matching gift policy.

Combined Federal Campaign

Federal employees and retirees can give through the CFC using charity code 96927. One of the great benefits of the CFC is that you can give though payroll deduction or through your retiree annuity, giving a little each pay period and supporting access to equal justice all year long.
