Each fall, Equal Justice Works honors lawyers who exemplify the values we hold dear—compassion, dedication, and commitment to achieving our nation’s promise of equal justice for all—at The Scales of Justice, a celebration of our community of lawyers.

The Scales of Justice raises critical funds needed to support our programs that mobilize passionate public service leaders.

Each year, Equal Justice Works presents the Scales of Justice Award to a leader in the legal community who exemplifies a commitment to public service and a passion for equal justice; has advanced the organization's mission and vision throughout their career; and has set a strong example for what lawyers and legal professionals can and should do to contribute to efforts in the public interest and toward greater access to justice for all.

The 2025 Scales of Justice award will be presented to Rishi Varma, Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary of Cargill, for his exceptional support of pro bono and public interest law. Each of our honorees demonstrate the compassion and commitment to equal justice that we work to cultivate and promote among public service leaders.
