Susan H. Alexander is the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Biogen and has served on the Company’s Executive Committee since 2006.  Ms. Alexander previously served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of PAREXEL International Corporation, as General Counsel of IONA Technologies, and as Counsel to Cabot Corporation. Ms. Alexander was also previously a partner at the law firms of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder and Fine & Ambrogne.

Throughout Ms. Alexander’s career, she has continued to serve, not only her clients, but her community as well. She currently serves as a Governing Trustee and on the Executive Committee of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and as a Trustee of the Winsor School.  Ms. Alexander’s prior public service includes having served as Chair of the Middlesex Community College Foundation, on the Boston Bar Association Counsel, and on the Boards of the Episcopal Divinity School and the Northeast Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, which named her an In-House Leader in the Law.  Ms. Alexander also served on the board of the New England Legal Foundation and received the Foundation’s John G.L. Cabot Award.

Among other awards, Ms. Alexander received the Good Apple Award from the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, the Activist Award from the National Association of Female Executives, and the Award for Advancing Women in the Legal Profession from the ABA Business Law Section. Ms. Alexander also received the President’s Award from the Boston Bar Association for her service on the Statewide Task Force to Expand Civil Legal Aid, which produced a roadmap for cost-effective funding of civil legal aid and reflected her deep commitment to ensuring that legal assistance is available to those who need it most.

Ms. Alexander received her B.A. from Wellesley College and her J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
